Primates are an order of mammals that includes lemurs, monkeys, apes, and humans! Compared to other mammals, primates have large brains and, unlike most other mammals, they rely primarily on their vision rather than their sense of smell. Many primates have opposable thumbs that allow them to grasp objects, and with the exception of apes, they all have tails.History: Primates are among the most intelligent mammals and have larger brains in proportion to their body size than most other mammals. More primitive primates include lemurs and tarsiers, while the more advanced primates, the so-called simians, include monkeys, apes, and even humans. There is a lot of variation among primates in terms of size and shape, from small tamarins to larger apes.
Characteristics: The primates in this TOOB range from lemurs to monkeys and apes. The set includes ten figures: the indri, a Japanese macaque, a howler monkey, a common marmoset, a red-handed tamarin, an emperor tamarin, a proboscis monkey, a bonobo, and two gibbons. The Indriidae is a lemur (more specifically a Coquerel's sifaka), while the bonobo and gibbons are apes. The rest are monkeys. These miniature figures are in dynamic poses and are scientifically accurate and highly detailed, making them excellent Montessori toys for nature lessons.
