Curious about the lifecycle of a luna moth? With this educational playset, children can learn about it easily and playfully. The figures show the amazing transition a luna moth makes from egg to caterpillar, to cocoon, and finally to a beautiful butterfly. This playset displays the four-part life cycle. Luna moth eggs are laid on tree leaves, including those of the sweetgum tree, where the caterpillars have plenty to eat and little competition. After molting several times, the caterpillar creates a cocoon, from which the adult luna moth emerges, ready to dry its wings and flutter into the night.
Features: One of the most beautiful and easily recognizable butterflies, the tails at the bottom of its wings allow the luna moth to confuse bats and escape predators.
Size and color: The luna moth caterpillar shows off its camouflage, confusing predators by blending in with its leafy home. The adult butterfly is approximately 8 cm from wingtip to wingtip.
The figures in this set are ideal to use as Montessori toys for lessons about biological processes and life cycles.
