Primates are an order of mammals that includes lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans! Compared to other mammals, primates have large brains and, unlike most other mammals, they rely primarily on their sight rather than their sense of smell. Many primates have opposable thumbs with which they can grasp objects, and apart from the great apes, they all have a tail.History: Primates are among the most intelligent mammals and, relative to their body size, have a larger brain than most other mammals. The more primitive primates include lemurs and tarsiers, whilst the more advanced primates, the so-called simians, comprise monkeys, great apes and even humans. There is considerable variation among primates in terms of size and shape, ranging from the small tamarins to the larger great apes.
Features: The primates in this TOOB range from lemurs to monkeys and great apes. The set contains ten figures: the indri, a Japanese macaque, a howler monkey, a common marmoset, a red-handed tamarin, an emperor tamarin, a proboscis monkey, a bonobo and two gibbons. The Indriidae is a lemur (specifically a Coquerel’s sifaka), whilst the bonobo and gibbons are great apes. The rest are monkeys. These miniature figures are posed in dynamic positions and are scientifically accurate and highly detailed, making them excellent Montessori toys for lessons on nature.
Dimensions: 3.8 cm long, 3.8 cm wide and 33 cm high; this TOOB® is slightly larger than a standard US ruler. The Primates TOOB contains 10 figures ranging in length from 5 to 7.6 cm. All our products are non-toxic and BPA-free
