A side view shows a green bean seed in the ground, followed by the germination stage, during which the seed sends out roots into the warm, moist soil. The plant reaches towards the sun, first sprouting two leaves and then beginning to grow into a plant capable of producing beans.
Scientific name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Characteristics: From a single green bean seed, roots sprout in search of nutrients, followed a few days later by the stem and leaves reaching towards the sun for energy.
Size and colour: The reddish-brown seed begins to take root in sandy loam soil. The stem follows, and the cycle is completed by the dark green leaves. The plant is 9 cm tall, about the size of a pack of cards.
The life cycle of a green bean plant is part of the Safariology® collection.
